First batch of zucchini

5 quite large zucchini's about 10 1/2 inches long. I'd better get baking!

Ode to Hannah (pictures added)

Hannah Claire,
You've charmed the Bear.

I love it when you come,
because you MAKE me have fun.

Josh the hairdresser,
leaves your hair messier. David wishes you were here all the time,
so he could stay out past the clocks ninth chime. You're a bad mama-jama on the BMX bike,
you attract strange boys named Elvis and Spike.

You laugh with me when we see men that look like goats,
and understand the feelings that his eyes emote.

We don't make fun or roll our eyes,
when we talk of crushes on ficitional guys.
(Michael & Alex!)

You'll stay up with me watching Gray's Anatomy,
and don't get upset when Bear whines TOO loud 'cause he has to go pee.

I can't wait until next summer,
if only a week, will be a bummer.

I love you Han!!!

High School Gym

List of fun things at the High School gym:

1. Getting to watch my hubby in action. He's been helping to train a few of the kids in the gym.

2. Getting to take pictures of little girls in cute cowboy boots.

3. Getting to see semi-athletic girls practice spiking - TOO FUNNY!

4. Cute little girls playing soccer with volleyballs with her uncle.

Monster Trucks & Smoke. (pictures to follow)

I had heard all of these ads on the radio for a Mud Bogging and Monster Truck show on Saturday the 19th. I thought "Hey, why not. The kids will LOVE it and I can take some really cool pictures with my camera!"

So Jon and Hannah came home Saturday early afternoon (Oh, Hannah is visiting for the week!!!) and after relaxing for a few hours, we drove out to Show Low.

We left early enough to get some dinner before the 'show' started. We ended up at Native New Yorker. We had pizza and wings that were delicious! AND did you know that you can play interactive games on the tv's from your table?!?!? That was just about the coolest thing that I didn't know about! So we started playing Texas Hold 'Em and no one but Jon could figure it out so Hannah and I decided to switch over to the trivia game instead. David and Josh randomly continued to play Poker and did surprisingly well for not knowing what they were doing.

Then we had some time left so we went to look at tractors. The one that Jon wanted was ONLY $16,000.00. I think I have since talked him into a nice ATV with the tractor attachments instead (for more than 1/2 the price!).

The gates for Thunder Raceway opened at 6pm, so as soon as the clock struck 6 we were off! We got some pretty decent seats on the second row, under the speaker box. I didn't know there were so many inbred people in the White Mountains. Althought we ran into a few people we knew, I would say that at least 50% of the adults there were missing teeth and above 50% were smoking. It was very different than what we are use to.

At the beginning and at intermission (and I'm assuming after the show) they were giving rides on a monster truck (it cost like $20 a person - ouch!) called the "Boogie Monster". It was pretty funny.

Then the 4 main monster trucks came out. The Terminator, Nasty Boy, the McGruff Truck & the Un-named Something (I can't remember the 2nd word of the trucks name). I can't believe how LOUD they were. It was pretty fun, then the mud bogging started... not so fun. lol. It was fun routing for the Joe-Schmoe, but only 2 of the over 30 trucks made it through. Kind of began to see a pattern - lol. We ended up heading out at intermission, as it was already almost 9pm and we still had an hour drive to get back home.

I don't know if I would do the Monster Truck thing again, but it was definately an experience we won't soon forget!

CONGRATS HANNAH!!!

My baby sister got her drivers license today!!! Woo Hoo!!!
(well Mom, do you feel old yet? hehe)

Tenda Moha-sul

This morning, I got some news that made me sad. Josh walked in and Jon was comforting me. He saw me crying and next thing I know, he ran into the other room. When I went upstairs to finish what I was doing, I heard Bob Marley coming out of Josh’s bedroom loud enough for me to hear it. Josh comes out singing and dancing “Don’t worry. Be happy.” He has the song still on repeat.
As my mom would say, he is such a “tender morsel” (pronounced with a NY accent – tribute to Papa!)

Tomatoes anyone?

This morning on our way to the Snowflake Swap Meet, we stopped at the Concho Farmers Market to say "hi" to the couple we bought Lucy and Cassie from. I was almost tempted to get myself a goat ice cream cone, but it really was TOO early!
We found some tomato plants that were doing really well (one a patio plant and one a beefsteak plant) at the swap meet. Our good finds of the day!

After an hour or so at the swap meet, C & W took us to breakfast at Trapper's, our new favorite restaurant for our Snowflake trips. It was delish!

Jon wants to go see Hulk tonight, maybe I can talk him into dinner too :) Another night of not having to cook - woo hoo!

The kids come home tomorrow and we can't wait! It's been pretty quite around here lately without them and are ready for some excitement and noise :).

Goat Milk?

Meet the newest additions to our homestead farm... Lucy and Cassie.

Lucy is a bit bigger. She's about 7 months old and a full Nubian dairy goat.

Cassie is just a baby at 5 months old. She's Nubian/Nigerian mix and quite a bit smaller than Lucy.

I spent about 30 minutes yesterday trying to get them used to me. They were finally letting me scratch their heads (between their horns) UNTIL Jon decided to put their collars on. Which wouldn't have been to tramatic for them except he kind of had to corner them to get it on. Because I was associated with Jon - they stopped coming over to me :(. A whole half hour wasted. I'll try again in a day or two. When Josh comes home, it will be his chore to take care of the goats so I'm sure he and I will spend some good calm quality time with Lucy and Cassie. They will learn to like me - I guarantee it!

Appraisal on Friday

So we got the call from the appraiser to set up an appointment - Friday sometime between 10am-1pm. We REALLY need this re-fi to happen!

Here is what we got done today (again - having no TV is wonderful!):

1. installed ABS coupling to finish plumbing the waste & overflow on the tub so we could patch the drywall in David's room. (the waste & overflow is that metal thing in the tub where if you overfill the tub, it should drain out of it instead of overflow all over the floor)

2. finished installing the laminate wood flooring in kitchen (I know - it's been almost a year...)

3. patched drywall and painted in David's room, brought in the bedroom furniture, hung closet rod in David's closet and put away his and Josh's clean clothes

4. finished texturing the walls in bathroom (I love that you can buy spray texture!!! But when it says to only use in well ventilated areas - HOLY COW - they really mean it.)

5. did 3 loads of laundry (ok, 2.5 - one is still in the washer and needs to be moved into the dryer - but still)

6. called an "old friend"

7. went through 2 boxes and brought them down to the barn (ok, Jon brought them down for me)

8. put up curtains in Josh's room (I'm still really hoping to have time to paint on Saturday before he comes home)

9. took a shower to wash away the stank of manual labor and my lovely husband took me to a nice romantic restaurant for dinner (well, it was Corky's - but the florescent light above us kept flickering - reminding me of a candlelit dinner - romantic right? :))

OH - and this was all after working for almost 9 hours. Would have been 8, but I have 2 more hours to make up from Visiting Teaching yesterday... I can't help it that me and my companion LOVE the ladies we visit - and we are ALL long winded! 3 hours visiting 2 of our 3 people??? Crazy.

Anyway, it's been another long day and I'm tired, so I'm going to hit the sack!

Remodel

We decided to do away with Dish TV at the beginning of the summer. It is AMAZING what can get done when there is no TV to distract you.

So far we have:

1. cleaned out, painted and put in the washer and dryer (which also needed a propane converter put in) in the laundry room

2. rearranged the family room furniture

3. cleaned and painted David's room (a surprise for when he comes home from his moms on Sunday)

4. cleaned, rearranged furniture and put up curtains in Josh's room (I'll paint if I've got time before he comes home)

5. remodeled bathroom - tub/shower w/wall kit, laid flooring, plumbed sink/tub/shower/toilet, drywalled/textured, most of the wains coating installed (I'll paint as soon as we decide on a color)

... and that's just with the house.

We've watched a bunch of movies and tried a few new restaurants (in Snowflake). Someday I'll make a list of the good and the bad of both.

Let's just say it's been a productive summer so far!

I can't wait...

My camera should be shipped tomorrow :) I've been like a kid at Christmas... I WANT IT NOW!!!

Family Vacation

This summer we toyed with the idea of doing something different for vacation this year. Maybe going rafting and camping in Durango but I got outvoted. Knott's Berry Farm and the beach it was - again. It ended up being a blast!

Caitie and Hannah came, of course (they are family!), and really were able to help out with things while we were there. They had fun too! We spent a day at the beach and Jon taught Hannah how to boogie-board!

David already knew how and we spent most of the day out in the water. Well, except for Josh. He was extremely content building sand castles and looking for shells with Hannah. There is something about funnel cakes at Knott's Berry Farm. Scrumptious!

There is something about hotels too. Either everyone is TOTALLY getting along... or everyone is TOTALLY NOT getting along! Luckily, this trip, was mostly the first.

Next year, I think we all decided, we'll try something new. Maybe Colorado, maybe Ireland... it could happen ;)
